During the pandemic, as the city shut down, we used mosques around the city as HUBS to distribute food. We have over 90+ volunteers, so many elected officials recognized them. Assemblywomen Chantel Jackson, Senator Alessandra Biaggi, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, Assembly Women Yudelka Tapia, Congressman Ritchie Torres, Mayor Eric Adams, and District Leader Lanita Jones.

The Belmont Islamic Center site became a HUB for other organizations to pick up for the entire Bronx, eight NYCHA developments, Twelve nonprofits, four churches, and three police precincts.

I couldn’t have done this without these incredible individuals like Aleksander Nilaj AAOHA, who show up every week regardless of the weather or time. AAOHA will pick up and assist in giving out food to other parts of the Bronx. None of these individuals gets paid at these distributions.

We all come from different ethnic and religious backgrounds and speak other languages, but our mission was to feed the Bronx, and we did it!

Certificates of appreciation were given to the best volunteers and supporters.
